About This Talk
Chris starts this talk with one word in the definition of priority: condition. He explains that setting priorities is an action taken to change that condition, and that where someone is today is tied to the priorities they set in the past. He asks listeners to notice which of their priorities are active and which are passive, keep their plans simple, and start before they have every detail.
Key Ideas
- Every choice reflects a priority, active or passive, and even the absence of a priority is itself a priority.
- Personal growth, self-care, family and friends come before work, because no one shows up well anywhere without first taking care of themselves.
- Picture the change, feel it, write down a plan, share it with a friend for accountability, and be kind to yourself when you slip.
- Keep a simple list of three to five regular activities, write it down, and review and adjust it as you go.
- Don’t give your mind time to talk you out of it; start now, even without all the details, and stay flexible along the way.
“Along any path, the most important thing is to start.”
